History of project
3 years ago, before the 25th January revolution had started, fr. Giovanni asked some volunteers a technical support for a leadership course to be addressed to a group of young women from a rural social back-ground. We wanted them to discover the importance of being part of the society, the reason of being Coptic and their history. Why shouldn't we learn and have the opportunity to develop a business? We needed artists to teach them techniques and trainers and teachers to explain symbols and history. Thanks to our network we came in contact with Saint Marc Cathedral's Coptic Institute, where clever and specialized artists gave their support in organizing workshops and giving their expertise and know-how. We gave them the opportunity to take part to the First International Coptic Art Exhibition, held in Cordi Jesu Church, the most ancient catholic Church founded by Saint Daniele Comboni in Cairo.
After this first successful experience, we organized many exhibitions in order to give visibility to young artists and create new contacts and opportunities.
An artistic laboratory was implemented where children, most of all Egyptian orphans, Sudanese and Eritrean children refugees attended classes.
2 years ago we got in touch with an orphanage, located in Sheraton (one of Cairo’s areas), named “The Good Samaritan” where 38 children receive assistance and live. We offered different services to those children, at first installing new computers and giving technical assistance and pc classes. We have also started a project which involves art, in particular, the “puppet theatre” meant to give psychological assistance to them through art, body expression and puppet creation.

Our services to children and women
We firmly believe in the human being. SAGS wants to promote art and Coptic tradition not just in its artistic shapes, because we believe that the most important “artistic” shape is the human being. Protecting Coptic tradition, history, art and memory can’t be a priority without including the ones who celebrate and live Coptic life.
As an association we support the weakest part of society in Egypt: children and women.
In cooperation with the Comboni missionary group we are managing some projects focused on psychological therapy through art. We have settled a laboratory where art is taught and we experienced, through the help of different volunteers, therapy through puppet theatre. This project is named: “Puppets are the teachers”.
